the 4th

The 4th was Erica's birthday, so Leina went up to celebrate with Erica and Erica's family and family friends at Auntie Diana's house near Occidental way up in the hills of Sonoma County. She volunteered to bring corn because she had read some recipe that she wanted to make in Sunset Magazine with corn and Espazote Sauce or something. But then she started feeling stressed and didn't really feel like cooking so she decided to bring some corn that they could grill.

She had to look all over town for corn, but finally found it at Molly Stone's. She then drove up and got to the party at 1:00. She began by employing her typical party behavior: find the person who doesn't seem to have anyone to talk to or doesn't fit in so well and make conversation with that person. In this case it was Uncle Jack, who actually was fitting in fine and Leina had just caught him in between conversations. So that conversation faded away.

But it was hot and she quickly stripped down to her bikini and sunbathed by the pool next to Erica for awhile. Then they ate, and though the party was expected to last another few hours, Leina left immediately afterwards in order to beat traffic back in San Francisco. She succeeded, and got home around 6:00 and laid in bed, watching the fireworks on TV and then sleeping.
